Kindness

May you be as kind to yourself as you are to others.

May your day unfold in peace.

May you know you are Divinely loved and cared for in ways you never dreamed.

May you abide in the Peace of your Soul, in the Oneness of All That Is.

The Hidden Ground of Love

The Hidden Ground of Love by Thomas Merton, published in 1985, is a collection of his letters that included religious or spiritual experience as well as social concerns.

In the Introduction, William H. Shannon, General Editor of the Merton Letters, quotes Merton:

And the deepest level of communication is not communication, but communion. It is wordless. It is beyond speech, and it is beyond concept. Not that we discover a new unity. We discover an older unity. My dear brothers (and sisters), we are already one. But we imagine that we are not. And what we have to discover is our original unity. What we have to be is what we are.

Earlier in the Introduction, Shannon quotes Merton writing of

…the happiness of being one with everything in that hidden  ground  of love for which there can be no explanation.

William Shannon adds

These words which see God not as a being among other beings but as the ground of all beings, and even more precisely the, ground of love in which all beings find their identity and uniqueness, provide a most appropriate title for this volume.

Between the Cells

Our physical bodies are composed of the same elements as the earth and sky around us. The four basic elements – earth, fire, water, air – make up our world and our bodies. Though there are not clear distinctions, I think of the body as symbolic of earth and fire, being hotter and more dense. I think of mind and emotions as symbolic of water and air, being more liquid and fluid.

It is said that there is more space than substance in the physical body. Science has shown that there is space within each cell and between the cells. Why then does the body not collapse in on itself? Because space does not indicate emptiness.

It is also said that the Soul or Spirit, the Divine Essence, dwells within the spaces of our bodies. We are imbued with the very Essence of the Divine, with Spirit. This is our True Nature, our True Self…that we exist on the Soul level, as well as the physical level, because the Divine gives and sustain life in all forms. The Divine within me gives this body, this  personality, this Soul its existence. And that will never change, even when I leave this physical plane, the Divine will carry me back into the fullness of Itself, my true home.

May you know peace, love and joy in all of the moments of your day.

All There Is

ALL  THAT THERE IS…

exists in this moment

comes from the Creator

is who I am

is who you are

is filled with infinite possibilities

is truth manifesting

is love unfolding

even when it doesn’t feel like it

so…

how I experience All That There Is

depends upon

the level of my awareness or consciousness

what I believe about the nature and purpose of life

how consistent my spiritual practice is

my being open and mindful

being in community with like-minded people

letting it be easy

having fun

loving myself and others

remembering that ALL THAT THERE IS

is eternal

transcends time and space

includes, but is not limited by, what is happening in this lifetime

is LOVE ITSELF

is THE DIVINE SEEN AND UNSEEN

May we all unfold into the art of letting it be easy. Peace.

For Just One Day

For Just One Day:

Choose to turn off the news and ignore social media.

Spend time with friends and laugh a lot.

Experience nature with mindful awareness.

Be at peace with yourself.

During this one day, try this simple meditation. Sit comfortably inside or outside and feel the flow of your breath. Let your breath slow to a comfortable length and say this silently in your mind as you breathe:

Inhaling into the Oneness of All That Is

Exhaling I am peace; I am love.

Everything Is One Thing

Some of my earliest memories are of feeling the Divine Presence in nature. My parents grew up on sheep ranches in northern Nevada and animals were always a part of life for them. My dad joined the Army Air Corp just months before Pearl Harbor so I grew up as the daughter of an Air Force pilot. No sheep though once we had a pig for a while. Dad won the costume contest at one of the base functions and Tojo was the prize! We had dogs and we spent most of our recreational hours outside, whether in the yard or camping by a river.

Last night I was reviewing a journal I started last May. A journal that, for some reason, I set aside about six weeks ago. The intention of this particular journal is to list some things from my day that brought me pleasure or joy, that allowed me to give and/or receive love, things that inspired me. One of the entries struck me so sweetly that I would like to share it with you this morning.

May 29, 2016

Pleasure: morning walk, prayer, talking with a squirrel – it sat on a tree very close to me and looked at me for quite some time. I spoke a few words, almost in a whisper and we seemed connected. Then Squirrel took its right front “hand” in a wee fist and touched its chest (heart). It stayed like that looking at me until I did the same and then it brought its hand down and so did I – and we parted. It was so sweet.

I walked on and felt the life force energy of the trees that canopy the streets here. I felt welcomed, known, supported.

Everything Is One Thing. I am not a squirrel and a squirrel is not a human being and yet, for a moment, we were part of the same thing. Different but not separate. Different but not separate.

People think I am so “disciplined” to walk or ride my bike every day. Nope. Discipline has nothing to do with it. Nature is God loving my very Soul, My True Self flourishes when I experience creation, when I feel the Divine in Everything, including myself.

Lao Tsu on Nonduality

Why did I use so many words the other day?!

Simply see that you are at the center of the universe and accept all things and beings as part of your infinite body. When you perceive that an act done to another is one to yourself, you have understood the great truth.

I have shared this quote before…it merits repeating. With reference to subject/object, it can be said this way:

At the core of all life, the center of the universe, is all life, the infinite body. The subject and the object are one and the same. The subject is the object; the object is the subject.
